CROCODILE
Founded in Hong Kong in 1952
CROCODILE is a classic Hong Kong menswear brand with more than seventy years of heritage. VIGOUR is the brand's new urban light-business collection: a light-business, urban-casual line created for contemporary men of experience who reject the constraints of formal tailoring and seek understated quality and unrestrained ease. It carries forward the brand's meticulous craftsmanship and articulates its core ethos — "resolute and enterprising, relaxed and vital".
This project distils CROCODILE's deep Hong Kong heritage and the fresh character unique to VIGOUR into a spatial order that is both buildable and repeatable over the long term, one made to showcase clothing brand memory rather than simply decorate a shop.
We have made our signature warm orange-yellow the collection's exclusive visual symbol, setting it apart from traditional, sober menswear stores, and introduced it into the space through flowing, translucent curved forms. We organise every design decision, material choice and craft specification around the brand expression of this collection.
When a menswear brand with decades of heritage undertakes an upgrade, it most easily falls into a dilemma: faithfully reproducing retro symbols leaves the space heavy and dated, unable to attract contemporary urban customers; blindly following minimalist, influencer-friendly aesthetics may look good but throws away the brand's innate recognisability.
Many brands treat a new collection as little more than a change of colour or campaign imagery — the space itself carries no memory point of its own and would work for any menswear brand. This project holds fast to CROCODILE's inherent DNA of "classic, enduring, pragmatic, never flashy." As the clothing display case manufacturer on the project, our task was not to invent a style detached from those foundations but to make them buildable.
VIGOUR's target customers are urban men with experience who reject the constraints of formalwear, pursue quality and dislike ostentation — which rules out the solemn, distant route taken by traditional menswear stores. The scheme therefore abandons space-fragmenting vertical partitions and the ceremonial weight of a central chandelier. Instead, a single continuous expanse of wood veneer forms the visual base, paired with all-round diffused soft lighting, so that the hanging garment display area, the folded-merchandise islands, the tall accessory cabinets and the consultation lounge flow naturally into one another. Boundaries are soft and blurred, dissolving the sense of pressure that traditional menswear stores carry.
This ease is backed by controllable production standards that safeguard chain-wide consistency: colour deviation of the wood veneer is strictly controlled at ΔE ≤ 2. Whether in newly added stores across China, the warm, unified wood tone can be sustained, continuously sending consumers a clear brand signal — this is CROCODILE, carrying the weight of years yet unbound by rigid formalwear conventions, in keeping with VIGOUR's ethos of quality that travels with you.
Most menswear stores are designed around closing the sale: dense merchandising, focused spotlights, circulation that drives customers straight at the product — an experience that easily makes mature men feel rushed and scrutinised, at odds with CROCODILE's consistently restrained, unhurried and unshowy brand character.
This space redefines the customer's path. It sets apart an independent mannequin styling zone, open browsing walls and a sofa lounge where one can sit and rest. Browsing, outfit reference and a short pause are separated; no aggressively guided circulation pushes people along — the fashion display cases read as quiet, self-directed walls rather than guided selling runs. Warm orange serves as a visual anchor, offering a gentle cue only at the collection points that deserve attention, while the rest of the space remains in quiet wood tones.
Customers can take their time selecting and pairing on their own or invite a companion to wait and chat in the sofa area — turning buying clothes from a one-way sales pitch into a comfortable exploration of one's own image, a fitting environment built to showcase clothing brand character rather than press for a decision, in keeping with VIGOUR's expression of ease.
VIGOUR's product line spans light-business outerwear, casual trousers, bags and accessories — a rich range with flexible styling logic. The display, therefore, cannot be bound by fixed props, or it will struggle to keep pace with seasonal turnover. We deliberately forgo eye-catching shapes and use simple, block-based modules for subtle zoning, letting cabinet height and arrangement rhythm define the functional areas naturally rather than letting form steal focus from the merchandise.
The fashion display cases are developed around VIGOUR's product proportions, with a dimensional tolerance of ±0.5 mm per module, so displays can be reconfigured and swapped at any time to suit seasonal launches, themed styling and hero-product pushes. These fixtures are not static decoration but a display medium that grows with VIGOUR's product rhythm, always leaving the gaze to the garments themselves.
FAQ
Q: How can we guarantee consistent color performance of wood veneer and warm-orange curved panels across multiple stores?
A: The color difference of wood veneer is strictly controlled within ΔE ≤ 2. Individually the warm-orange paint is sampled with matched colors working in concert. All colored parts are subject to uniform process specifications, and each batch of paint is inspected on arrival to control color deviation and avoid visual discontinuity between outlets.
Q: Can precision remain stable when modular cabinets are repeatedly disassembled, reassembled and rearranged seasonally?
A: Cabinet modules are custom developed according to the dimensions of VIGOR products. The dimensional tolerance of each single module is limited to ±0.5 mm. Standard tenon joint construction avoids obvious gaps after multiple times rearrangement. It enables flexible display adjustment while preserving the neat visual quality of the space over time.
Q: Will this low-pressure layout without hard selling lead to crowded customer flow and inefficient circulation?
A:The store is an open, semi-divided space with clear browsing, mannequin display and lounge areas. Each viewing route is designed to be between 8 and 12 meters. Customers are able to browse and explore outfits at their own pace when there is minimal mandatory guidance, which is a preferred shopping method among the mature target shoppers.
Q: How often can the display theme be changed, and how much effort does each change require?
A: The modular system allows minor monthly theme tweaks and major seasonal reconfiguration. No demolition of fixed wall finishes is required. New scenes can be achieved simply by reorganizing modules and relocating warm-orange backdrops. On-site adjustment can be finished within 4 hours to fit the brand’s new-launch schedule.
